Sit back and take a moment to ponder the iconic moments of the Ravens 2012 season.
One of the moments that solidified the team’s morale and drive took place back in September on a national stage when the Ravens rallied to lift the spirits of Torrey Smith after the tragic passing of his brother, Tevin. Within a day, Torrey was back on the field and it made the subsequent win over New England even sweeter. Torrey finished that game with 6 catches for 127 yards and 2 TD’s.
Who would have dreamed back then in Week 3 that Torrey was destined for the Super Bowl this year? He certainly played like a champion on the field. ESPN Stats say that Torrey “goes deep” more than any other receiver with at least 20 targets. Smith had 8 touchdowns this season, before his additional 2 beautiful catches last week against New England.
And that’s just on the field.
Off the field, Smith is a true humanitarian. He founded the Torrey Smith Foundation (TSF), a non-profit that works with at-risk youth and domestic violence victims. Torrey Smith’s “Helmets on the Hardwood” All-Star Basketball Game for TSF will celebrate it’s third year in March and boasts a Ravens vs. Redskins rivalry.
Plus, did you know he’s a local boy? He grew up in Virginia and surpassed records at the University of Maryland.
Whether the Ravens are truly a Team of Destiny is irrelevant. You’ve got to admit, today Torrey has a great way to spend a birthday–preparing to head to New Orleans for the biggest game there is with the greatest team there is.
Happy 24th Birthday Torrey!
We’re proud you’re a Raven!
